With a brand spanking new edit suite comes new software, plug ins and methods of approaching different and established techniques. We wanted to test out our new post production tools as well as a new camera, so as part of this process we ran a green screen test, with 3 main objectives:
1. To look at different lens, shooting with our new Canon EOS 550d in a green screen environment
2. Some motion tracking shots with same kit
3. Test out the post production end with our new system – checking clipping etc with an energetic subject moving against green screen
We chose a subject who could preform martial arts moves in order to get a good bit of controlled movement and action going.
This clip is a rough assembly of shots. It demo’s the acquisition in studio and a bit of post testing. We eventually chose a macro lens to shoot the studio bit – gives great detail, crisp shots and nice depth of field.
Stepping through various stages of the post bit things start to get very interesting – we’ve added a shadow into the subjects’ movement as well as time re-mapping his movement and trying out different backgrounds…..lots of possibilities and we’re still playing around with this stuff whenever we get any downtime!

We created this ambient 3D animation to function as both a multi-lingual event ‘Welcome’ and directional signage to guide people round the event space across different floors. This was projected large scale on to a wall at the Glasgow Science Centre and proved very effective….and quite mesmeric!
